one down

at last! may natapos akong isang task!

i finally finished the detailed report for the workshop. 2 weeks kong binuno yun. sakit sa ulo, a bloody nose, sleepless nights, and now i’m sporting the panda look. bagay yata ako na beijing olympics mascot… or ng Panda ballpen. 😛

(stone, stone in the sky…)

now, back to being haggard…

ngiti naman jan. :)

binuksan ko email account ng boss ko today to get his mail. oo, parang secretary na din ang trabaho ko every morning. pwera lang pagtimpla ng kape. brandy ang iniinom ng boss ko eh. hehe…

i found an inspirational email. natawa ako at natuwa… naisip ko din na ‘oo nga noh? special ba talaga ang pilipinas sa paningin ng Diyos?’ it’s a nice thought.

A man in Topeka , Kansas decided to write a book about churches around the world. He started by flying to San Francisco and started working east from there. Going to a very large church, he began taking photographs and making notes.

He spotted a golden telephone on the vestibule wall and was intrigued with a sign, which read ‘Calls: $10,000 a minute’ Seeking out the pastor he asked about the phone and the sign. The pastor answered that this golden phone is, in fact, a direct line to heaven and if he pays the price he can talk directly to GOD.

The man thanked the pastor and continued on his way. As he continued to visit churches in Paris , France , Cairo , Egypt , Hong Kong in China , and around the World , he found more phones, with the same sign, and the same answer from each priest.

Finally, he arrived in Philippines, upon entering a church ln Manila, Philippines, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, behold – he saw the usual golden telephone. But THIS time, the sign read ‘Calls: 35 cents.’

Fascinated, he asked to talk to the Priest, ‘Father, I have been in cities all across the world and in each church I have found this golden telephone and have been told it is a direct line to Heaven and that I could talk to GOD, but in the other churches the cost was $10,000 a minute. Your sign reads only 35 cents a call. Why?’

The priest, smiling benignly, replied, ‘Son, you’re in the Philippines now ……. You’re in God’s Country, It’s a local call.’

do i need a reason

naalala ko lang ngayon na last week, papasok ako sa work, medyo mainit na ang sikat ng araw (bandang 9AM na). but the feeling was really sort of glorious, bathing under the sun, feeling it on you face. i look up at the clear blue sky over the trees that have just started sprouting leaves again. then with my mp3 player on ‘radio mode’, this song started playing and i instantly turned into a crazy kid, imagining i was filming a music video.

i was daydreaming.

everything just looked perfect to me that time. i knew i looked weird smiling and with a daft expression on my face while walking towards work, but i felt really pleased and happy then. i didn’t care about the heat or the long walk or being late or the jet lag. i just felt really really good listening to it.

i think i found another feel good song. 🙂

International Year of Languages 2008

it’s amazing how some people could dedicate so much to a cause. one of the most amazing advocates of capampangan culture and heritage is jason laxamana who i’ve previously met and talked about. and he does it once again, with a translation of UNESCO’s director general koichiro matsuura’s message. mahirap na mag-translate from english to tagalog which are two languages often used even in schools. mabuti pa ang foreign languages, may kurso sa kolehiyo. that’s why i’m really proud whenever i read an article in kapampangan. it also forces me to find out these vocabulary words that i should know since i’m kapampangan but don’t.

fitting nga na magkaroon ng kapampangan translation ang message na to…

from bad to worse

there’s this on-going chronicle about the socialites of manila and how one aussie guy was duped by DJ Montano with his life’s savings. di basta-basta mawalan ng pera… and higit sa lahat yung perang pinaghirapan mo.

well, di man ganun kalaki nawala saken, money is money. ganito yun…

i live in this small boardinghouse inside UP Campus in the Dagohoy area. we have this little thieving caretaker who we call “Ate Thelma”… she was very accommodating, soft spoken, and respectful whenever we talked. she always seemed nice around me so whenever she’d ask for money, after a litany of how hard times are and how little she receives from the landlady for taking care of everything — from the soap in washing dishes to the toilet cleaner, i would lend her some with a promise from her that she would pay me back as soon as she gets her salary from the barangay.

Justice and Divine Vengeance Pursuing Crime

or so i thought… and hoped.

dumaan ang linggo, dumaan ang mga buwan, wala akong natanggap na bayad. and then she would come to me again apologizing for not being able to pay, telling me stories of how his son got his gf pregnant and now they’re having a baby and they need money for the check-up, etc. i pitied the baby more than the parents and the grandmother. nagbigay ulit ako. she promised to pay when their loan gets approved.

dumaan ang linggo, dumaan ang mga buwan, wala akong natanggap na bayad.

i smelled something fishy, of course. and it wasn’t her. she smelled far worse. she knew i wouldn’t fall for the ‘pity’ trap again so she devised another way to deceive me… through “sanla”. a few times, she offered cellphones in exchange for money. the first one was worth the P300 i gave. old cellphone, weak battery but still working. then she offered me a necklace. i wasn’t fond of jewelry so i turned that one down… probably saved myself P100. then there was this last one, Nokia 6600. she gave me the phone but it was turned off… i trusted her that the phone was at least 90% working. well, it wasn’t. it’s a paperweight now…

and through out that time nagbabayad ako ng boarding house through her. i give her the money to be sent to the landlady when our landlady couldn’t come to collect the payments.

or so i thought… and hoped.

today, i found out that she hasn’t been remitting my rent payments. P1,300.00 every month for the past 2 months. i can’t demand payments from her. she can barely make ends meet. i can’t sue her. i could but it wouldn’t be worth it. i may get justice pero ang liit na bagay, papalakihin pa ba naten? pero hindi rin tama ang manlamang ng tao. alam kong hindi ko na makukuha ang nawala kong pera. ipapa-sa Diyos na lang ba ‘to? madaling sabihin, mahirap gawin… mahirap din kumbinsihin ang sarili ko na hindi gumalaw.

i will have my vengeance, one way or another.

sana turista na lang talaga ako

i wish that i would’ve been more like a tourist when i went to india. plus i wish i had saved up for that digital camera way back so i could’ve taken more pictures comfortably. now that i think about the wonderful images i could be taking back with me, i only brought a few with me since i only had a camera phone that took ages to save the picture i was taking and was very noisy. 1.3MP isn’t bad though…

when we were at the shri chamundeswari temple in mysore (pronounced: my-soor), i shopped for the pasalubong i would be bringing home… bought a few bangles for the girls at the office and pen holders for the guys. now that i’m blogging about it, and after i’ve given them all away, i don’t have a picture to show here where i bought them or how they look like! naiisip ko na nung andun sana ako, kinunan ko ng litrato mga nakita ko dun. as in lahaaaat ng pwedeng kunan, kukunan ko ng litrato… hindi ko kasi na-categorize yung mga sidewalk stalls and vendors as ‘kakaiba’ kasi madami din naman ganun dito diba? yung mga nagbebenta ng coconuts with flowers that were meant to be offerings hindi ko din kinunan kasi andaming buko sa pilipinas, mas malalaki pa! yung marketplace na parang divisoria, di ko rin kinunan kasi nga parang divi lang siya… may tindahan ng saree pero dahil parang tindahan lang siya ng tela, di ko na rin kinunan. haaaay… so hanggang kuwento na lang talaga? mistakes, regrets.

ang nakapag-remind lang saken ng mga to eh yung photo op ko with mama melle dito sa office. dahil feel na feel na niyang maging Indian (errr… or is it Hindi?), pinasukat ko sa kaniya ang saree na binili ko for A. after YouTube-ing for instructions, and endless trials, nakuha din namen ang decent look ng nagsusuot ng saree. 🙂

mama melle in sari

ayos ba? 😀 it looked really pretty on her. mukhang sign ito na… *kilig* 🙂 hehehe… (ano, mama, ready na ba mag-migrate to India? maghanda ka lang ng malaki-laking daori. :P)

mukhang yan na lang ang consolation ko. ngayon, naka-picture ako ng babaeng naka-saree. 😛 haha…
